When selecting your new copiers, there are several features you should consider.
Be sure you discuss these features with your vendor prior to selecting a new unit for your department.
Automatic Document Feeder (ADF)
Allows you to copy multiple pages without having to lift the copiers lid.
Paper Tray Size
If your department produces a high number of prints per day, you may want a tray that large paper volumes.
Additional Paper Trays
May be important if you want the ability to print legal and 11′ x 17′ custom paper sizes, or print on colored paper without switching paper.
For envelope printing.
Manual Bypass Tray
Quick, one-time feeding of special paper types or sizes.
Usually includes a stapler and two or three hole punch option. May also include folding and booklet trim options.
Memory and Hard Drive Size
For storing jobs that are waiting to copy/print if the paper tray is empty, or for storing jobs that are printed repeatedly permanently kept in memory.
Pages Per Minute (ppm)
Describes how fast your device can produce copies or print documents.
Consider this option if you want to send or receive faxes.
Color or Black and White Printing
Black and white copiers are typically cheaper than color copiers. If you are interested in color, be sure your device copies, scans, and prints in color.

Used tracking use of the copier for reporting or billing purposes.
Do you want to maintain the codes, or have the Help Desk update the codes directly on the copier? Consider a copier that allows multiple Administrator accounts.
Scanning to a network folder, and/or scan to email capabilities.
Maintain a list of contacts for scanning to email, instead of manually typing the email address for each use. Consider a model with ability to connect to Boise State’s LDAP address book for a lookup of all faculty and staff.
Do you want to maintain the address book, or send changes to the Help Desk to update? Consider a copier that allows multiple Administrator accounts.
